To mark the eightieth anniversary of the end of the war in Europe, Friends of the National WWII Memorial has arranged a unique, five-star journey for the fall of 2025.

Over a week, we sample the finest local cuisine and hospitality and visit key sites in Germany and the Czech Republic. From the mountains of Bavaria and heart of Munich, via the hell of Dachau and the Nazi cauldron of Nuremberg, we journey to wondrous Pilsen and Prague, following in the footsteps of the amazing liberators who won WWII in Europe.

Munich and Berchtesgaden (Days 1, 2, and 3)

Over three days, guests explore the origins of Nazism and Hitler’s rise to power. The trip begins with a welcome gathering at the Kempinski Munich. Day two explores Hitler’s Munich, with visits to the legendary Hofbräuhaus, Beienner Strasse, the Feldherrnhalle, and memorials to the brave men and women of the White Rose resistance movement, notably brother and sister, Hans and Sophie Scholl.

On day three, we explore the key sites around Berchtesgaden - Hitler’s beloved mountain retreat. We visit the Obersalzberg, the Nazi “Camp David”, where Hitler welcomed his most loyal followers, and Hitler’s home, the Berghof, and take a special bus up to the haunting Eagle’s Nest with its amazing views of Hitler’s nirvana – one of the grandest landscapes in Europe.

Dachau and Nuremberg (Days 4 and 5)

On day four, we visit the Nazis’ first concentration camp, Dachau, established in 1933 shortly after Hitler came to power. Friends’ resident historian, Alex Kershaw, guides us through the camp and the liberation on 29 April 1945, telling the inspiring story of Lt. Colonel Felix Sparks, as recounted in his book, The Liberator. After lunch in a nearby beer garden, we head to our hotel in Nuremberg.

On the fifth day, we visit the courts of justice where the Nuremberg trials took place, the vast Nazi parade grounds where Hitler held his infamous rallies, and the streets where Lt. Michael Daly, subject of Kershaw’s book, Against All Odds, earned the Medal of Honor.

Pilsen and Prague (Days 6 and 7)

On day six, we follow the route of General Patton’s 3rd Army, arriving in Pilsen in the Czech Republic, the last city to be liberated by the Allies just two days before the end of the war. The day concludes at the Four Seasons in Prague with a celebratory farewell dinner, marking the Allies’ victory in Europe.

The following day, after breakfast, participants bid farewell to their fellow travelers, concluding the historical tour and proceeding with their onward journey or return to the United States.

This exciting trip includes hotel accommodations at 5-star hotels, three meals daily, sightseeing with author and historian Alex Kershaw, all museum entry fees, and private transfers on tours.
